5 Tips for Remodeling Your Home

Found a home that’s great, but have just a few tweaks in mind to elevate it to the next level? You’re not alone. According to the latest reports from LIRA, the Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity, home renovations are projected to rise about 4.8 percent by mid-July. That’s a whopping $20 billion dollar increase from 2020!

If you’re one of the many homeowners contemplating a change this year, here are some tips to get you started:

1. Efficiency First

Resist the temptation to extend rooms at first glance, and opt for efficiency instead. Furniture with built-in storage can be a real game changer! If furniture replacement isn’t enough, custom cabinetry may be cheaper than a room extension.

2. Ask Away

Significant savings could be just a few questions away. See if your subcontractor has any leftover materials from a recent job that would otherwise go unused; you might be in luck!

3. Think Long-Term

Some renovations may come with a higher cost up-front but provide huge savings over the years. Unfortunately, the reverse could apply as well. Be sure to investigate your options with long-term costs in mind. You may be surprised by what you find!

4. Hire An Architect

The scale of your renovations may require an expert opinion. If you find yourself scratching your head for a solution to a particular problem, call an architect. They can sketch out plans and offer simple solutions that you may have overlooked. This could save you the headache and even cut costs in the long run.

5. Donate

If you’re refurnishing to suit a different style while remodeling, why not donate? Organizations like Habitat for Humanity can pick up your unwanted furniture/appliances if they meet the criteria. The furniture clutter will be taken off your hands and you get to help a good cause; win-win!
