The Summer Events I'm Most Looking Forward to in Chandler & The East Valley

One of the questions I get asked all the time from people relocating to Chandler is, "What do people actually do here during the summer?"

Sure, it's hot. We all know that.

But after living and selling real estate in Chandler for 30 years, I can tell you that summer doesn't mean staying inside for three months. It simply means we become a little more strategic. Early mornings, evenings after sunset, splash pads, shaded patios, and air-conditioned venues become our best friends.

One of the things I love most about living in Chandler is that we're perfectly situated in the heart of the East Valley. Within 15 to 20 minutes, you can enjoy events in Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and Tempe without feeling like you've traveled across the Valley.

Here are a few of the summer traditions I look forward to every year.

Saturday Mornings at the Downtown Chandler Farmers Market

There's just something about grabbing a coffee before the Arizona heat settles in and wandering through the Downtown Chandler Farmers Market.

The market runs on Saturday mornings throughout the summer, and while it's smaller than some of the seasonal winter markets, it's still one of my favorite ways to start the weekend. You'll find locally grown produce, fresh baked goods, handcrafted soaps, local honey, flowers, and vendors who genuinely enjoy talking with their customers.

As someone who has watched Downtown Chandler transform over the last three decades, I love seeing people gathering here. After browsing the market, it's easy to walk over for breakfast or grab another cup of coffee at one of the many breakfast restaurants.

Sunset Live Music at Veterans Oasis Park

veteran oasis parkOne of Chandler's hidden gems is Veterans Oasis Park.

Most people know it for its walking trails, fishing lake, and incredible bird watching, but throughout the year the park also hosts community events and occasional outdoor concerts.

Watching live music as the sun sets over the lake is one of those experiences that reminds me why people love living in South Chandler. Families bring lawn chairs, kids run around the grass, and neighbors catch up while enjoying a beautiful Arizona evening.

It's relaxed, local, and exactly the kind of community atmosphere that makes Chandler feel like home.

Movie Nights Under the Stars

Cine chandlerOne of my favorite family traditions throughout the East Valley is outdoor movie nights.

Chandler, Gilbert, and Mesa all host family movie nights in local parks during different times of the year, and while summer schedules vary, these events always attract great crowds.

There's something nostalgic about watching a movie outside with a blanket spread across the grass while kids play until the before the movie begins.

These evenings remind me that some of the best entertainment doesn't require expensive tickets—just good weather after sunset and a community that enjoys spending time together.

The Gilbert Farmers Market Is Worth the Short Drive

Farmers marketAlthough I live in Chandler, I find myself making the quick drive to Chandler/Gilbert Community College for their farmers market. Once held in DT Gilbert, it grew so much that it moved to the college.

This Farmers Market has become one of the best in Arizona, featuring dozens of local farmers, artisan food vendors, specialty coffee, handmade products, and fresh flowers, and delicious food trucks, too.

It's one of those places where you always seem to run into someone you know as well as a great excuse to spend a relaxing Saturday morning supporting local businesses.

Tempe Town Lake Events Always Feel Like Summer

Tempe town lakeTempe Town Lake is one of those places that somehow makes you forget you're in the middle of the desert.

Throughout the warmer months, there are paddleboard rentals, kayaking, charity walks, fitness events, and community races that bring people outdoors early in the morning or later in the evening.

One of my favorite things is simply walking along the paths as the sun begins to set and watching the skyline light up across the water.

It's a completely different vibe than Chandler, which is exactly why I enjoy it.

Mesa's Evening Festivals Have Small-Town Charm

city of mesaDowntown Mesa has really evolved over the years.

Summer festivals, art walks, and community celebrations give residents another great option just a short drive away.

I especially enjoy events that feature local artists and live music because they highlight the creativity that's flourishing throughout the East Valley.

Every community has its own personality, and Mesa has done a wonderful job creating events, too.

Why These Events Matter

After 30 years helping families buy and sell homes in Chandler, I've realized something important.

People rarely remember the square footage of a house.

They remember walking to a farmers market on a Saturday morning.

They remember listening to music in the park while their children danced on the grass.

They remember watching fireworks with neighbors or finding a favorite local coffee shop after browsing downtown.

Those experiences create a sense of belonging and offer a great lifestyle.

That's one of the reasons I love living in Chandler and working in the East Valley. We're not just close to great neighborhoods—we're surrounded by communities that invest in bus residents.

Whether it's an evening concert in Chandler, breakfast at the Farmers Market, a walk around Tempe Town Lake, or a festival in Downtown Mesa, there's always something happening that reminds me why the East Valley is such a wonderful place to call home.

And if you're thinking about making your home here, I'd be happy to share a few more of my favorite local spots. After 30 years here, I've collected quite a list. Reach out to me at 480-355-8645.
